Welcome to Watchhill Photography -a site dedicated to Scotland's Mountain Scenery
This Website is having images and text added continuously and some sections are still to be populated. If a window or images do not ‘react’ to your cursor, then this section is awaiting data population.
The predominant theme of this website is the portrayal of Scotland’s Mountain Landscape. Images have been captured over a period of 60 years of walking and climbing over Scotland’s wild landscape with an emphasis on the winter months. The majority of the images have been taken high up, or on the summit of the mountains. They present a picture of Scotland’s Sub Arctic Landscape. Traditional views of Scotland’s iconic landscape, as seen from road level, are few.
Many of the images date back to the use of film and, particulary those taken using 35mm film do not match the quality of modern digital cameras or smart phones. I believe however that if the image is successful this is more important than the technology behind it.The website images will be augmented by general Scottish Landscape and Wild Life images and images of the West Highland Rail Lines that pass through and give access to much of Scotland’s Highland Scenery.
The majority of the images have been taken with a digital camera (either Canon 5D series, or Sony A7R series. However many are digital scans of 6×7 film (Mamiya 7) and a few are 35mm (Nikon FE2). Some 35mm images date back over 50 years. If the image source is film the caption will include ‘35mm‘ or ‘6×7’.
