The three Scottish Islands noted for dramatic mountain scenery, are Skye, Rum, Mull and Arran, of which Skye has the major share and the spectacular Cuillin mountains. This does not belittle the mountains on Rum, Mull and Arran in terms of natural landscape beauty. However, the Skye Cuillin, including the outlier Blàbheinn, has twelve ‘Munros’ (mountains over 3,000ft) and only Mull has one. In spite of this there are many rugged and spectacular mountains on Mull, Rum and Arran as well as on Skye which, although not Munros, also rise from sea level and can be difficult and dangerous because of sudden changes in visibility and storm force winds.
